Franklin Application/Installation Data (AID) ... For The Professional Driller-Installer Vol. 17, No. 6 November/December 1999

NEW FIELD SERVICE ENGINEERS & CONTROL BOX CHANGES

In the last issue of Franklin Aid, we shared some important information concerning overhead power lines and safety. The article stated that an OSHA requirement for distance from a power line is "At least 10 feet plus 0.4 inches for each kilovolt above 50 kilovolts or maintain twice the length of the line insulator, but never less that 10 feet." It has been expressed to us that different governing bodies have different distances. For example, ANSI standard B30.5-1994 states "…maintain minimum clearance that equals or exceeds OSHA requirements as follows: …". Per B30, the safe distance increases as the voltage increases. Pete Romitti of Romitti Well Drilling also states the National Electrical Code (NEC) says "…3/4ths the line height…". These both work on the theory that as the voltage increases, so does the line height. We wish to thank our readers for taking the time to inform us of the latest safety issues.

New Field Service Engineers: One of Franklin Electric's Key Factors of Success is Service. It is very important to us to provide service for our products after the sale. Two ways we do this are through our submersible service "Hotline" and this newsletter. In addition, we also maintain network of Field Service Engineers to assist you with training sessions, site visits, troubleshooting, product information, and motor updating.

We have recently added two new people to this team: Mr. Darol Hayse and Mr. Adolfo Muñoz. With the additions of Darol and Adolfo, Franklin Electric's Field Service Engineer network increases to 13 members worldwide. We are pleased to introduce to you the newest members of our world class service team.

Darol Hayse is the Field Service Engineer for the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Darol replaces Tom Ross in most of this territory as Tom has moved on to Franklin's sales department Darol has been in the water well industry for many years and will be living in the Springdale, Arkansas area. He can be reached through his voice mail (260-827-5115) or by calling the Service Hotline.

Adolfo Muñoz has been added as the Field Service Engineer for Mexico. Adolfo is new to the water well industry but has a background in technical support and training. Adolfo presently lives in Monterrey, Mexico and can be reached by calling his voice mail (260-827-5113), the Service Hotline or Motores Franklin in Monterrey, Mexico (52-8-331-4334).       Besides adding new members to our Field Service team, we have also made a change in Texas. Mr. Jimmy Vela has taken over this territory from Tom Ross. Jimmy has been with Franklin for 6 years and was recently promoted to the position of Field Service Manager for Texas and Latin America. As with all our Field Service Engineers, Jimmy can be reached through his voice mail (260-827-5112) or the Submersible Service Hotline.

Product improvement: In Franklin's quest for continuous product improvement and to provide the customers with the products they demand, we have made some changes to our medium & large horsepower control boxes.

To increase the motor's starting torque, we have increased the microfarad (mfd) values of the start capacitors. The table to the right shows both the old and new values and part numbers. If you need to increase your starting torque, increase the start capacitor values to the ones in the "New" column. If you've always had adequate starting torque or have old capacitors in stock for replacements, use the older values.

You may also notice is a change in the contactors inside deluxe control boxes. As our supplier changed the contactors we purchase from an "open" style to a "closed" style, Franklin took the opportunity to answer a request from some installers to increase the size of these contactors. The contactors in 2 Hp, 3 Hp and 15 Hp deluxe control boxes did not change; however, the contactors in 5 Hp, 7 ½ Hp and 10 Hp boxes now have higher amperage ratings. The table below lists both the old and new Franklin part numbers for the contactors. As with the start capacitors, if you have older contactors in stock, these still work fine.

Note: Franklin Electric is in process of standardizing our spare parts numbering system. Our spare parts are changing to a series of 305 xxx numbers. The kit numbers shown above are the numbers you should use to order replacements. There is no physical difference between the parts in the 305 xxx kits and the 275 xxx parts of the same value, just a different number series

Note: The 10 Hp contactor part number (155 326 102) did not change, but the actual part Franklin purchases under that part number did. The different amp values for this part number listed above are correct.
